![]() While going all-out is necessary for long stretches or shallow turns, I never felt like Dirt Rally 2.0 expects me to drive flawlessly at maximum speed all the time, as lesser racing games tend to do.ĭirt Rally 2.0’s officially licensed FIA World Rallycross Championship series promises hair-raising action - provided you’re not driving more car than you can handle. The car seems more manipulable at slower paces, which rewards more conservative driving or a focus on simply keeping wheels on the road. It’s usually found somewhere in the blend of tire choice and wear (both new to the game), surface degradation, and the weight and turning radius of the car, of course. It feels like there is more than one way to solve a 4-turn that sharpens into a 2, or those hairpins carved through bare granite in Argentina’s mountains. Sliding through the turns, I am feeling for the edges of a safe speed with every sense I have, including my ass.īut even if Dirt Rally 2.0 lives up to its namesake ancestor, 2015’s Dirt Rally, in how much it demands of the driver, I don’t find it to be tough-as-nails for the sake of it. I was tensing up through every switchback and square turn, trying to will my Peugeot 280 R2 back from the brink of an unguarded shoulder somewhere in Spain. Each car’s handling has such a personality that their manipulation seems to extend beyond the controller’s inputs. I take that for granted from Codemasters, whose Dirt 4 I adored and whose F1 series has become an obsession. There is more than a distinct feel to each of its 50 cars, or even how they perform on three different surfaces, whether wet or dry. Was it yesterday’s hike? The weighted blanket I sleep under? My cheap desk chair? This weekend I became aware of the fact that my ass was really sore, and I had no idea why. ![]() ![]() It’s worth noting that the software works with all Calibrite or X-Rite classic 24-colour targets you don’t specifically need the Passport Duo. This should give more consistent results when processing files shot under different lighting conditions. You can also create a dual-illuminant profile, using raw files shot under daylight and artificial light. The resultant DCP file can then be used in imaging programs such as Adobe Camera Raw or Lightroom.Ĭalibrite’s free ColorChecker Camera Calibration app is simple to use. The latter can be used either as a simple visual reference tool, or to create a colour profile for your camera using Calibrite’s accompanying software. For stills, there’s a pale grey white-balance card, along with a standard 24-colour target. Lanyard: A somewhat gaudily branded blue lanyard comes in the boxĪs with previous versions of the ColorChecker Passport, you get a sturdy black plastic casing measuring 12.5 x 9 cm that will fit easily into a camera bag or pocket, and which folds open to reveal a set of four calibration targets.Compatibility: Calibrite’s software works on both Mac and Windows PCs, either as a standalone application or a Lightroom plug-in.Camera Calibration: You can create both DNG and ICC profiles for your camera using the ColorChecker Camera Calibration app.Targets: Four targets are included: a Classic 24-patch colour White Balance 24-patch Video Colour and 3-step Grayscale (for video).Credit: Andy Westlake Calibrite ColorChecker Passport Duo key features: Google Now did work in AMIDuOS, so it's not due to an inability to run on an emulator but rather an unfortunate glitch. The colour targets are housed in a slim, pocket-sized black plastic casing. Saying "OK, Google" to your computer does nothing except make you think you're going crazy, and even tapping the microphone for voice commands results in a blank-screen glitch in both the Google Now launcher and Andy's custom one. You have to choose between ADW launcher and Google Now, but Google's service works horribly in Andy. Unfortunately, using the custom launcher means you can't use the superhelpful Google Now app, which puts Google Now cards in a new screen and shows you the weather, stock prices and websites related to your recent search results. It comes with a customized ADW launcher as well, so apps you install are automatically put into categorized folders on the home screen. You can launch Android apps from shortcuts in your Windows desktop, copy files between Android and Windows via a shared folder and ES File Explorer, and get push notifications from Android in Windows. The next version of Andy will supposedly allow you to map keyboard keys (for example, use W, A, S and D to move a car in a game).Īndy offers a few interesting additional features to integrate Android with Windows. After pairing my phone with Andy, I found the remote control worked well as a handy replacement for a touch screen, except for a couple of times when the connection timed out. This is a great benefit when you're playing games like Asphalt 8, so you can tilt your phone and use its touch screen to navigate, rather than having to tilt your entire laptop (which would be unwieldy, if yours doesn't have a detachable display). Andy includes useful keyboard shortcuts, so you can do things like hold down the Ctrl key and use your mouse's scroll wheel to zoom in and out, or use Ctrl and your keyboard arrow keys to mimic swiping.Īnother unique ability of Andy is it lets you use your Android phone as a remote control, mirroring the screen on Andy on your phone. If your PC doesn't have a touch screen, however, you can still do most things in Android apps with your mouse and keyboard. Andy would obviously work best with a touch-screen PC, so you can swipe, tap and tilt your screen as you would an Android tablet. Otherwise, this is your standard Android system running in Windows, with full multitouch support and sensor integration. If you hover your mouse over the bottom of your screen, you'll also get some handy tools that let you switch between landscape or portrait mode and full screen or window, as well as select the microphone and camera hardware to use. From the Andy icon in the Windows status bar, you can also set the exact resolution and DPI you want for the window. You can resize the window on the fly, and the app will adjust accordingly. One of the things I like best about Andy is that, unlike other Android emulators, such as AMIDuOS, you're not forced to run the program in either full-screen mode or a fixed-size window. btw suggestion looks good, definitely has most of the features you'd want. I wonder if there's some way of making storyboarding work well with the NLA editor or something - basically during storyboarding you're doing a ton of rearranging and retiming, and most of it is on large groups of keyframes, so having to manually do stuff in the graph editor is a) time consuming and b) very easy to mess up I'd love to use Blender for storyboarding, but currently I'm using Wonder Unit Storyboarder as well, mainly for the ease of retiming and rearranging. Perhaps a storyboarding feature set would merit a dedicated version of the dope-sheet? ![]() It would be great if there was a way to 'parent' keyframes to a common set of properties, so that multiple layers could be moved, scaled, and displayed together. However, they complicate the task of retiming, which I think is the crucial issue for storyboarding. and in this area, GP is great for boarding. I can have a separate layer for characters, backgrounds, props, etc. There's a cool 3D scene creator that is kind of a gimmick, but it's a great feature for people like me that suck at drawing! This is easily doable in Blender with addons like Archipack and Archimesh. Notes, action, and dialogue text boxes that change with the frame Blender has a great audio library already, I imagine this wouldn't be too hard to implement. Quick recording and inserting voice/sound clips. Dope sheets are better for keyframe animation than storyboards. It's easy to lose track of the duration of a panel this way. ![]() In Blender, you have to select all keys and move them multiple times- one for GP objects, once for sound, once more for armatures, yet again for markers, etc. Frames can be dragged and dropped anywhere in the list. This also make it easy to re-time, since you can drop a new frame in and each subsequent frame moves over to compensate. Thus there's never the problem of wanting to edit the panel but accidentally creating a new frame- it's not possible to be between panels at all. ![]() Despite bad performance, I still use it for boarding because of these features:Įasy to rearrange frames, since they are not tied to a timeline, but rather are arranged sequentially and each have their own duration property. It's a great tool, but it can't handle any more than a few minutes of storyboard because it's implemented in JS. I would recommend looking at the UX of the FOSS app, Storyboarder. A way to export selected frames from the Sequencer (using markers) as images/PDF for printing, with scene title, frame number, text, dialog or comments (Could be using an addon)įorgive me for interjecting if this isn't a discussion page. A quick way to select a Scene strip in the Sequencer and switch to that scene in the Storyboarding Workspace. Determine wich Scene to use on a particular workspace, to avoid the need to change the scene every time you switch from Video Editing Workspace to Storyboarding Workspace to work on the Grease Pencil object. A new **Template for Storyboarding** that include a new Storyboarding Workspace to draw and edit frames and also a 2D Full Canvas, Video Editing and Rendering Workspaces. Things needed for the Storyboard workflow using Grease Pencil: ![]() ![]() The wood's association with weaponry was so well known that the Greek name for it was used as a synonym for "spear" in poetry during the fourth and third centuries BCE.
